This is a favorite tradition in our house! I wrap up Christmas books (new or used) and have the boys open one a book each night in December at bedtime. I was given this idea by a woman I met who had also raised 3 boys and she wanted to make special Christmas memories without spending a lot of money.

You can really use any books you want. I have so many Christmas books, so I wrap used books. The boys get excited no matter what! You could buy new books as well. There have been years when I didn’t have enough Christmas books in my house and I used other books to match the theme: Penguins, Polar Bears, or Reindeer.

When the boys were all under the age of 5, I would number each book so that there would be less fighting and they could practice numbers. Some years I will leave the numbers off too. Either way works!

I used different wrapping papers from Target ($3 a roll) and some leftover from last year. This is a fun and memorable Christmas activity that doesn’t take much time or money. Here’s hoping bedtime for the month of December goes smooth!

My son’s favorite book when he was little was The Mitten, by Jan Brett.
Great idea for Christmas gifts. I hope to have grandkids someday, and if so, I will use your idea!
