I had one week to come up with a themed table for a music event at our church. One week! My first thought was to choose something I have a lot of, so that I don’t have to spend lots of money and time. Of course a penguin themed table was my first idea!
Let me start off by saying that penguins are not a popular theme this year in any stores! I wanted to buy plates with penguins on them. Since it’s the start of the holiday season, I didn’t think this would be a problem. I was so wrong! No penguins in Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, Target, Walmart, Homegoods, or Kohls! I had a moment when I almost stratched the entire penguin idea.
I started to draw my ideas down and wondered if I could use my own white plates for the penguins belly. Then my next idea was a placemat that looked like a penguin. I searched Amazon with no luck! The only thing on Amazon I found where the penguin napkins.
I walked around Hobby Lobby and saw round black placemats. This could work! I bought fleece and cut the shapes for the penguins head, wings, and feet. I found white chargers at Hobby Lobby that would be a perfect fit.

The decorations and centerpiece, I have to admit, came from my own house. The ornaments were given to me a few years ago from a friend at my church. I went into my son’s room for the penguin figurines. I found the ceramic penguins in the dollar zone section in Target. For the centerpiece, I had the glass container at home but went to Hobby Lobby for the white ribbon and red decorative piece.

For making this all in one week, I would say it went very well! The penguin table was a hit and my boys are requesting that we use the penguin placemats for dinnertime at our house. Maybe there is a penguin themed party in my future!
